Flower Artist Lydia Lowe has created a series of beautiful, framed 'Herbarium Specimens' using traditional techniques first developed by Luca Ghini, an Italian botanist from the 16th century! Ghini is credited with developing the process of pressing and drying plants and mounting them on paper, effectively preserving them for study exactly as we do today. It was popularised in the 19th and 20th centuries and these beautiful herbarium specimens began to be framed and make their way onto our walls.
The fauna and flora Lydia collects are local to her in the south of England and are hand labelled and framed in simple black wooden frames .
They look lovely singly but work equally brilliantly when several are massed together.
The collection of herbarium specimens changes with the season and no two are alike.
